Abstract
In order to investigate labor characteristics of 40 or more years old, multiparous women (study group) with the interval of 10 or more years between deliveries, we retrospectively compared the study group with the normal multiparous (control
group
A)
and multiparous women (control group B).
Two control group were arbitarily selected on the basis of a randomized list.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. During the period of the study, the total 39235 deliveries were undergone and 75 women (study group) who was 40 or more years old deliveries the baby with the interval of 10 or more years between deliveries . The study group constitutes
0.19% of
all deliveries during the period of the study. 19 women in the study group underwent elective cesarean section and the other 8 women in the study group underwent cesaren section with the obstetric indications. 48 women in the study group
delivered
the
baby vaginally.
2. There was no significant difference in the gestational age and the incidence of premature rupture of membrane on admission between control A,B and study group (P<0.05). The cervical dilatation and effacement in the study group were
significantly
different from those in control group A, but there was no significant difference between study group and control group B. There was no significant difference in the descent of the fetus on admission among these 3 group.
3. The length of 1st stage of labor, latent phase in the 1st stage and the length of 2nd stage of labor in the study group were similar to those in the control group B, but significantly different from those in the control group A (P<0.05).
4. The cervical dilatation per hour during the active phase of the 1st stage of labor in the study group was similar to that in control group B but significantly different from that in control group A (P<0.05).
5. Considering labor characteristics after exclusion of women treated with oxytocin, the length of 1st stage of labor, latent phase in the 1st stage and the length of 2nd stage of labor in the study group were similar to those in the control
group
B,
but was different from those in the control group A (P<0.05) and the cervical dilatation per hour during the active phase of 1st stage of labor in the study group were similar to that in control group B but significantly different from that in
control
group A (P<0.05).
In conclusion, the labor characteristic in the study group was similar to multiparous women. It was suggested that the vaginal delivery might be the ideal mode of delivery in these uncompromized 40 or more years old, multiparous women with the
interval
of 10 or more year between deliveries.
